Ruta de J

Great news to report on the food and wine renaissance of northern Baja. We travelled up the Ruta de Vino to Valle de Guadalupe from Ensenada to find excellent food, wine and J.

View from the patio at Finca Altazano
(note the world class gym & btw working out at the table is completely acceptable)

Kitchen complete with sato keeping things tight.

Our meal blew her mind!

On another evening, we visited Boules...

Great food, local micro brews and of course Boule. Javi (left), the recently sober chef has a great eye check, loves to work out and has a mean game of boule (always throws underhand).

It became clear that the trip was meant to be when I asked for a local micro brew and received this...

While there was no surf on this visit, there are a number of nice point breaks down there including this one. Needless to say, this is a cobb-worthy adventure.

This is my man on the ground down there.

rico's surfographic

Here's an infographic summarizing my surfing in 2012. My goal was to surf 100 times during the year so I give myself a B-. I am going to have to work a little harder at it in 2013. ~rico

Puede Ser

Puede ser la vista nuestra
Un sueño nuestro
Un punto de vista

Did you hear the hummingbird fly by?

Leon and I met Glen Horn through Boots McGee down in Baja a few years back. Glen is a surfer and Surfboard shaper 3 months per year in San Diego, he lives the other 9 months in "Big Red" his RV is a converted '67 delivery truck. He split this time in between 2 secret locations that he tries to preserve as pure as they were 30 years ago when he first traveled there. Here's Glen dropping some knowledge on living in both worlds - urban & natural.
